The online master's programs are designed for news and advertising professionals who have been in the field for a minimum of three years. The media management program is well-suited for persons moving into management positions after several successful years as print or broadcast reporters, copy editors, photographers, photojournalists or producers. The strategic communications program is designed for advertising professionals who are seeking a master's degree that will provide more knowledge and expertise in their field.

The program is online except for a one-credit-hour, one-weekend, summer class conducted on the MU campus in Columbia, Missouri. The master’s degree is composed of course work which totals 37 credit hours. Completion time will depend on the number of courses you take per semester. You may graduate in three years by averaging two courses per semester.

Students may start the program as either post-baccalaureate (formerly non-degree-seeking) or degree-seeking.
