Strategic Communications: Master of Arts in Journalism ONLINE!

Courses in the Strategic Communications Program

Courses are scheduled in the fall, winter and summer semesters. Fall (August to December) and winter (January to May) semesters are 16 weeks in length, and summer session lasts eight weeks (June to early August). For information on current semester dates, please go to the Mizzou Academic Calendar.

Program Core: 9 credit hours

  • JOURN 8000 Mass Media Seminar (3 hours)
  • JOURN 8080 Media Ethics (3 hours)
  • JOURN 8006 Quantitative Research Methods (3 hours) or
  • JOURN 8008 Qualitative Research Methods (3 hours)

Strategic Communication Core: 16-18 credit hours

  • JOURN 7736 Economics and Finance of the Media (3 hours)
  • JOURN 7978 Media Management and Leadership (3 hours)
  • JOURN 8018 Strategic Communication Research (3 hours)
  • JOURN 8020 Principles & Tools in Strategic Communications Planning (3 hours)
  • JOURN 8058 Communication in Media Organizations (3 hours)
  • JOURN 8070 Pro-seminar in Communications (1-3 hours). This course can be repeated. Attendance for one 1-hour seminar on campus is required.

Capstone Level: 10 credit hours

  • Professional Project: 8098 MA Project Seminar (1 hour) and 8190 Area Problem (9 hours)
  • Thesis: 8100 MA Thesis Seminar (1 hour) and 8090 Research (9 hours)

Total Required for Graduation: 37 credit hours
