Family Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Online Master’s Degree Option
Individuals with baccalaureate degrees in nursing who want to deliver advanced primary mental health care to individuals of all ages including children, adolescents and their families should consider applying for admission to this area of study within the master of science program in nursing. Family mental health nurse practitioners engage in advanced nursing practice through independent and interdependent decision making and are directly accountable for clinical judgments.
The curriculum uniquely combines online course work and preceptored clinical experiences within the student’s local area. Students gain knowledge and skills to: conduct comprehensive physical and mental health assessments for children, adolescents and adults; perform differential diagnosis of psychiatric and mental health disorders; prescribe and manage psychotropic medications; deliver psychotherapeutic and psychoeducational interventions; develop and implement health policy; assume leadership positions; consult; expand use of evidence-based practice and health policy development; and engage in case management.
